GC women's team tunes up for MWC Championships with impressive performances

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Grinnell College women's track and field athletes tuned up for next week's Midwest Conference Championships with some of the top performances in program history Saturday.


Competing at the Monmouth College Fighting Scot Outdoor Invite, Eva Carchidi '24 ran the second-fastest 100-meter dash time in program history with a clocking of 12.43 seconds. That is best at Grinnell in more than 40 years and was good for second in the event.

Sonia Edassery '24 added a time of 12.77, which ranks sixth in program history. She finished fourth.

Aiyana Rockwell '24 threw the discus 40.06 meters, which ranks third at Grinnell and put her third in the event. Annie Filkins '24 was sixth with a throw of 36.58, 10th-best at Grinnell.

In the hammer throw, Filkins was fifth at 39.09 meters and Maddy Strovers '26 threw 35.61, which rank fourth and seventh in program history. Filkins was fifth in the event and Strovers eighth. Additionally, Kylie Galowitz '26 threw 33.39 meters which is ninth all-time.

Grinnell won two events, Hannah Roark '26 in the 1500 (5:04.24) and the 4x100 relay team of Edassery, Ava Taylor '25, Maile Crowe '25 and Carchidi. Their time was 49.95.

Grinnell went 3 through 7 in the 800 with Crystal Kaczmarczyk '25 (2:29.28), Allison Rabbani '25 (2:35.74), Caitlin Ong '26 (2:36.42), Elleanor Elliott-Rude '25 (2:38.21) and Grace Charron '26 (2:42.47).

Sadie Staker '24 was third in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 400 hurdles in 17.49 and 1:10.02. Morgan Karow '26 and Kylie Klassen '25 placed third and fifth in the 1500 in 5:07.59 and 5:30.26. Grace Marsh '25 was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 30.41.

Placing sixth were Melanie Oden '25 in the long jump (4.73 meters) and Sara Booher '25 in the shot put (11.15). Taylor added a seventh-place finish in the 200 in 27.49.
