Grinnell baseball team ties school record for RBIs in a game during 21-11 victory over Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. - Grinnell College's baseball team saved some of its best for last, tying a school record for RBIs in a 21-11 victory at Knox College Sunday afternoon in the regular-season finale for each team.

Grinnell not only had 21 RBIs to match the total put up last year against Elmhurst College, but had season-high totals for runs and hits. The run total was  just one shy of the school record.

Grinnell (18-19, 14-10 Midwest Conference) pounded out 21 hits in the win. Mac McCain '25 led the offense by going 5-of-6 at the plate, the hit total just one off the all-time best at Grinnell. Luke Porter '23 was 4-for-6.

The Pioneers got out to a 10-0 lead early on, scoring four runs in the second and third frames and two more in the fourth. McCain had a solo homer in the second inning and Josh Fournier '23 a two-run shot in the fourth.

Knox (7-31, 1-13 MWC) closed the gap to 10-6 before the Pioneers took off again with a six-run sixth inning. Harry Barker-Fost '23 made the most of his final regular-season game, knocking in two runs with a single in the sixth.

After Knox made it 16-11 in the seventh, Grinnell iced the game with two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth.

Ben Cerrato '25, the second of seven Grinnell pitchers, earned the win. He struck out two batters while working a hitless inning.

The Pioneers play Beloit College on the latter's field in the opening round of the Midwest Conference Tournament Friday.
