Grinnell men's soccer team continues lengthy winning streak against Coe

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's men's soccer team has dominated Coe College over the past decade, and the Pioneers made sure that trend continued Friday.

Grinnell notched its ninth win in a row over the Kohawks at Springer Field, cruising to a 2-0 victory in non-conference play and the season opener for both. The winning streak dates back to 2014.

Carter Benson '24 earned the shutout at keeper for Grinnell, using a masterful performance to record a save. It marked the eighth shutout of Benson's career after a five-shutout effort last year and two in 2021.

Grinnell's offense came from the experienced and the newcomer. Sam Bayliss '24 represented the experience, recording the second goal of his career while breaking a scoreless tie in the 39th minute.

Then it was time for the newbies, as Anthony Hong '27 connected in the 76th minute on an assist by Oluwademilade (Demi) Oni '27 in the first collegiate match for both.

Grinnell dominated the shots battle, taking 13 compared to five for the Kohawks. Oni had three shots, while Peter Murphy '25, Zak Serby '25 and Oliver Northing '26 had two apiece.

Grinnell takes to the road Saturday to face Eureka College in Eureka, Ill. Action begins at 12:30 p.m.
