Grinnell men's soccer team knocks off Eurkea on the road

EUREKA, Ill. - After opening its season with a victory at home Friday, Grinnell College's men's soccer team took its act on the road Saturday.

The different site didn't faze Grinnell, as the Pioneers came away with a 3-2 non-conference victory at Eureka College.

Sam Bayliss '24 continued his offensive onslaught for the 2-0 Pioneers, scoring a pair of goals to boost his total to three for the season. Dylan Maddux '25 added the third goal for Grinnell.

Bayliss' first goal came in the 42nd minute to hand the Pioneers a 1-0 halftime lead. He added a second score 10 minutes into the second half on an assist by Oliver Northing '26 for a 2-0 edge. It marked the third and fourth goals of Bayliss' career.

After Eureka cut the margin in half, Maddux found the back of the net in the 70th minute for his first goal of the year and eighth in his career. Demi Oni '27 provided the assist. Eureka scored three minutes later, but the Pioneer defense stepped forward to secure the win.

Eureka, 1-1, won the shots battle 14-13, but the Pioneers held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Zak Serby '25 had three shots for Grinnell, while Bayliss and Jonah Kaplan '27 had two each.

Carter Benson '24 had keeper duties for Grinnell, which was facing Eureka for just the second time ever. He made six saves.

Grinnell plays its annual Alumni Game on Sunday before hosting the University of Dubuque at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
