Another strong day propels GC women's golf team past pair of nationally-ranked teams

WAVERLY, Iowa - One of the best rounds in program history propelled the Grinnell College women's golf team past two nationally-ranked teams on its way to a strong finish at the Wartburg Fall Invite Sunday.


The Pioneers shot a 299 on the final day of the two-day event, a score that ranks fourth in program history. That allowed Grinnell to rise from fifth to third place in the event with an overall tally of 602, which is the third-best 36-hole tourney score in Pioneer history.

Grinnell defeated both 14th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University and 24th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at the event.

Lauren Chen '24 finished fifth of 98 golfers, shooting 74-72-146. That two-day score ranks 10th in program history. 

Meilin Hoshino '27 was next in line for Grinnell with a 77-73-150, which put her in 10th place. Kavya Keshav '26 added two rounds of 76 for 152, good for 15th place.

Saya Geisendorfer '27 went 77-78-155 and Sara Meneses '26 had a 76-81-157. 

Eighth-ranked St. Catherine University won the team title with a 582, and 21st-ranked Carleton College was second in the 17-team field at 600. A golfer from each school tied for top honors at 143.

Grinnell is at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Invitational next weekend.
