Knox sneaks out 2-1 men's soccer victory over Grinnell

GALESBURG, Ill. - When the Grinnell College men's soccer team plays Knox College, it always ends up being a barn-burner.

That was the case again Wednesday, with Knox grabbing a one-goal halftime lead and hanging on from there to eke out a 2-1 victory in Midwest Conference play.

All the scoring came within a 15-minute span, with two of the goals being scored within 40 seconds of each other. Knox scored in the 24th minute for a 1-0 lead, but the Pioneers tied things less than a minute later when Peter Murphy '25 scored. It was the first goal of the season for Murphy and fourth of his career.

The Prairie Fire added another goal in the 39th minute and held off the Pioneers from there.

Both teams managed 12 shots. Oliver Northing '25 had three of those shots while Murphy, Zak Serby '25 and Jimmy Miseda '26 added two apiece.

Grinnell keeper Jayson Kunkel '26 recorded four saves.

Grinnell, 3-4-3 overall and 0-2 in the MWC, hosts Ripon College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Springer Field. Knox moved to 5-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.
