Grinnell men's soccer team battles to 1-all draw with Ripon

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's soccer team jumped out to a 1-0 halftime lead, but the Pioneers saw Ripon College answer with a penalty kick goal as the teams battled to a 1-all draw Saturday at Springer Field.

Grinnell's goal came in the 17th minute when Oliver Northing '26 found the back of the net for his first score of the season. Dylan Maddux '25 provided the assist. On the play, Maddux delivered a corner kick from the right side into the box, which Northing knocked into the net for his seventh career goal.

Grinnell, 3-4-4 and 0-2-1 Midwest Conference, owned the shots battle 23-9, including a 13-2 edge in the first half. The Pioneers also shut out the Red Hawks, who are 2-2-5 overall and 0-1-2 in the MWC, in corner kicks by a 9-0 margin.

Northing had seven of Grinnell's shots, Jimmy Miseda '26 and Samuel Gojjam '27 added three apiece and Anthony Hong '27 Maddux, Sam Bayliss '24 and Soma Suzuki '25 had two apiece.

Keeper Carter Benson '24 recorded four saves as Grinnell's keeper.

Grinnell hosts Illinois College next Saturday at Springer Field.
