Kai Te Huki '27 has been named the Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Performer of the Week.
Te Huki, from Palmerstown North, New Zealand (Palmerstown North Boys High School), was impressive while helping Grinnell to its best start to a season since 2011-12. He erupted for 30 points, including a 12-of-13 performance from the free throw line, in a 111-104 victory over Knox College. That extended Grinnell's home winning streak against the Prairie Fire to 23 games, dating back to 2000.
Te Huki followed that up with another strong performance, scoring 27 points with the help of 7-of-11 shooting from 3-point land in a 95-89 victory at defending MWC champ Illinois College. The victory over the Blueboys, who are receiving votes for the national rankings, put Grinnell in a first-place tie in the league with a 9-2 record. Grinnell is 15-4 overall.
Te Huki leads all of NCAA Division III in 3-pointers (5.21 per game) and is second in scoring (27.6 points per game).
The MWC Women's Player of the Week is Kendra Bass of Illinois College.
