Grinnell will battle John Carroll in opening round of NCAA D-III Men's Basketball Tournament

Regional opener slated for 4:10 p.m. Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Grinnell College's men's basketball team will battle John Carroll University in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament Friday on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University.
 
Grinnell will bring a 22-3 mark into the contest and, with an NPI of 41, will be the third seed in the four-team regional pod. The Blue Streaks, seeded second with an NPI of 32, bring a 22-6 mark into the game.
 
The other side of the pod has top-seeded host Illinois College and fourth-seeded Heidelberg.
 
John Carroll, based in University Heights, Ohio, earned the North Coast Athletic Conference's automatic berth by beating Denison University 84-66 in the league's tournament title contest.
 
Grinnell, which has never faced John Carroll in any team sport, toppled Monmouth College 85-56 in the Midwest Conference Tournament championship game to punch its ticket to nationals.
 
Friday's tip is at 4:10 p.m.
