GC women's basketball team pushes mark to 2-0 with victory over St. Olaf

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's basketball team won for the second time in as many nights Saturday, using a strong second half to dispose of St. Olaf College 69-62 at Darby Gymnasium.

The 2-0 Pioneers, who trailed 44-39 at halftime, soared to a 20-13 scoring edge in the third period and 10-5 run in the fourth.

Sara Booher '25 and Bailey Strovers '27 each posted double-doubles for Grinnell, with Booher tallying 12 points and 14 rebounds and Strovers adding 10 points and 12 boards.

Nikki Ware '25 and Cassidy Pak '27 were also in double digits for scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Booher added four blocks and Ware came up with two steals and three assists. 

The 1-1 Oles jumped out to a 25-22 lead after one period and stretched that to five points by halftime. Grinnell came back in the third period, gaining the lead at 53-51 on Strovers' 3-pointer with 3:51 left in the frame. After St. Olaf tied it, Nora Lynch '28 got a basket right before the buzzer to put Grinnell up heading into the final frame.

Grinnell led the rest of the way, with Ware icing the victory from the free throw line in the waning seconds.

The Pioneers take to the road Wednesday to play Central College in Pella. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
