Grinnell men's track and field team puts up more strong performances on final day of MWC Indoor Championships

Fadden claims 60-meter dash title

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's track and field team wrapped up a busy day at the 2024 Midwest Conference Indoor Championships with plenty of big performances Saturday.


Leading the way was Lucas Fadden '26, who sprinted to his first-ever MWC indoor title by claiming the 60-meter dash in 6.88 seconds at the Ripon College track.

That effort and many more propelled the Pioneers to fourth place in the team standings with 101 points, just one out of third place and 7.5 behind second. Ripon won the title with 137.5 points.

Luca Fornari '25 added a runner-up finish in the pole vault with a leap of 4.40 meters. He went as high as the champ, but the latter was awarded the title on a tie-breaker.

Fadden placed third in the 200 in 22.47, while the quartet of Brian Goodell '24, Luke Robinson '26, Bradley Ramsey '24, and John Miller '26 put up a strong front in the 3000 by claiming four of the top eight spots. Goodell was fourth in 8:41.91, Robinson took fifth in 8:42.20, Ramsey was seventh in 8:56.68 and Miller placed eighth in 8:57.53. Goodell's time is eighth in program history and Robinson's is ninth.

Also placing fourth were Ian Clawson '26 in the weight throw (16.21 meters) and the distance medley and 4x400 relay teams. The distance medley unit of James Snyder '26, Xavier James '25, Carter Williams '25 and Ryan Hill '27 ran 10:51.80 and the 4x400 unit's clocking of Caden Pfister '27, Andy Chestovich '26, Connor Heagy '26 and Fadden went 3:29.06. The 4x400 team's time ranks eighth in program history.

James SnyderCasey Oliveira '27 and Jack Novelle '26 were fifth in the triple jump and high jump with performances of 12.63 meters and 1.81 meters, respectively. Sixth place went to Ilem Leisher '27 in the 60 hurdles (9.00) and Garret Bean '24 in the weight throw (15.32 meters, third in program history).

Heagy and Robinson were seventh and eighth in the 800 in 1:57.78 and 1:57.80. Those times are eighth and 10th in program history.

Also for Grinnell, Murphy Dykstra '27 placed seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 12.53 meters and Pfister was eighth in the 400 in 52.34.

After the meet, James Snyder '26 (photo at the left) was presented the Elite 20 award as the student-athlete competing at the meet with the highest cumulative GPA. The award recognizes the commitment of the student-athlete toward the pursuit of excellence in both the athletic and academic realms as measured by reaching the pinnacle of competition within the league while also achieving the highest academic standard among their peers.
