Grinnell baseball team falls a bit short in pair of losses Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Grinnell College's baseball team came up a bit short Saturday in a pair of setbacks to Kalamazoo College and Wartburg College.

The Pioneers lost to Kalamazoo, a team receiving votes for the national rankings, 11-0 to open the day and then was forced to play catchup in a 9-4 loss to the Knights.

Grinnell managed three hits against Kalamazoo, singles by Mac McCain '25, Ian Brown '24 and Michael Flaherty '24. Ian Feld '25 was the pitcher of record for the Pioneers.

In the Wartburg game, the Pioneers fell behind 5-0 before slicing into the gap with two runs in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Cole Philpott '25.

All of Grinnell's runs in the game were the result of round-trippers, as Evan Borberg '24 belted a solo shot in the eighth inning and Connor Goodson '26 hit a homer in the ninth.

Borberg had two of Grinnell's five hits, while Jake Hull '24 was the pitcher of record. The Pioneers turned three double plays in the game, which is tied for sixth-best in program history.

Grinnell, 3-6, meets Elmhurst University in a doubleheader Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
