Defending MWC champion Beloit takes pair of games from Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - Defending Midwest Conference champion Beloit College used a big comeback to win Saturday's opening game against Grinnell College, and parlayed that momentum into the second for a sweep at Pioneer Park.

Grinnell (5-9 Midwest Conference, 12-18 overall) broke out to leads of 3-1 and 4-3 in the first game before the Buccaneers rallied for a 7-4 victory. Ethan Crawford '25, Connor Goodson '26 and Ben Kelly '25 each had two hits for the Pioneers, while Ian Feld '25 provided a strong starting pitching effort by striking out three over five innings.

Goodson had an RBI single to left in the first, while Sean Richardson '24 added an RBI double to right in the second and Nikolas Ruden '26 a sacrifice fly to right for a 3-1 lead. After Beloit (12-6 MWC, 19-10 overall) tied it at 3-all, Grinnell made it 4-3 in the sixth with a solo homer to right by Sean Tashjian '25.

However, the visitors scored four runs in the seventh and secured the win from there.

Beloit won the second game 16-1 in seven innings with the aid of a 20-hit attack. Nathan McCurdy '25 had two hits for Grinnell, while Mac McCain '25 provided the team its lone run with an RBI groundout in the third inning. McCain boosted his career totals bases figure to 226 during the day, which ranks seventh in program history. Jake Hull '24 was the pitcher of record.

The teams finish their series Sunday with a single game at Pioneer Park, starting at noon.
