Grinnell men get off to strong start at MWC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Brian Goodell '24 claimed his sixth Midwest Conference track and field title while helping Grinnell College's men to third place after the opening day of the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships.

Goodell defended his 10,000-meter crown by running the race in 31 minutes, 38.42 seconds. That was nearly 30 seconds faster than the runner-up. Grinnell had two other place winners in the race, as John Miller '26 finished seventh in 33:39.07 and Bradley Ramsey '24 took eighth in 33:59.84.

Grinnell also fared well in the throws, led by Ian Clawson's '26 runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.40 meters. Garret Bean '24 was fourth at 48.65 meters, the third-best performance in program history, Jake Bell '26 added the eighth-best throw of 39.43 meters. Bell was also third in the discus with a throw of 42.07 meters, which ranks ninth in program history.

Luke Robinson '26 added a fourth-place finish in the 1500 in 3:57.39, which ranks fifth in program history. Grinnell had four runners advance to Saturday's finals out of prelim races on Friday. Lucas Fadden '26 had the fastest-qualifying time in the 100 and 200 dashes in times of 10.67 and 21.78. Xavier James '25 had the third-best 400 hurdles time of 58.16, Caden Pfister 27 had the seventh-best 400 time of 51.20 and Ilem Leisher '27 had the eighth-fasted 110 hurdles time of 17.22.

Grinnell has 37 points after the first day, just 10 behind leader Ripon College.
