Grinnell men's cross country team enjoys successful outing at Les Duke Invite

GRINNELL, Iowa – It was another huge day for the Grinnell College men's cross country team, this time at its own Les Duke Invitational.
 
The Pioneers put two runners in the top six and placed second only behind regionally-ranked Central College on a muggy Saturday morning at the Grinnell College Golf Course.
 
John Miller '26 had a big effort for the Pioneers, racing to runner-up honors in the 98-runner field. He ran the 8-kilometer course in 26:03.7, finishing just ahead of Grinnell alum Brian Goodell '24, who came through in 26:04.2.
 
Luke Robinson '26 was sixth for the Pioneers in 26:38.1, Sam Beck '27 took 11th in 27:14.0, Connor Heagy '26 was 15th in 27:42.8 and Sebastian Manza '27 ran 28:16.2 to finish 20th.
 
Next in line for Grinnell were Jason Newman '28 and David In '28, 21st and 22nd place in 28:22.7 and 28:25.2, respectively.
 
Grinnell totaled 54 points, finishing 11 in front of Simpson College. Central won with 26 and had the individual champ in Jack Brown, who finished a small distance in front of Miller in 25:58.5.
 
The Pioneers are off until Oct. 4 when they compete in the Pre-Nationals Meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
