GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's men rose to the occasion on the home course Saturday, placing second of 10 teams at the Les Duke Invitational cross country meet.
The Pioneers, ranked ninth in the Midwest Region, tallied 61 points and finished ahead of a team ranked ahead of themselves, Simpson College. The only squad to beat the Pioneers was Central College, ranked 30
th nationally and fifth in the region. The Dutch tallied 16 points.
Grinnell got a strong performance from
Jack Lakin '29, who placed fifth of 143 runners on a mild and windy day at the Grinnell College Golf Course. He ran the 8-kilometer event in 26 minutes, 23.5 seconds.

Greyson Imm '28 and
Milo Flores '30 followed with a strong pack attack, going 10
th, 11
th and 12
th in 26:51.1, 27:09.6 and 27:13.4, respectively. Rounding out Grinnell's list of scorers was
Henry Pickert '30, who was 23
rd in 28:04.7.
Also for the Pioneers,
Ian Kawamura '30 placed 29
th in 28:24.7 and
David In '28 took 35
th in 28:44.9.
Grinnell also had an alumni-faculty-staff team that placed eighth with 237 points.
Luke Robinson '26 led the way, taking 39
th in 29:19.4.
The individual champ was Central's Jack Brown, who finished in 26:00.4.
