Grinnell women post largest margin of victory ever against Beloit

Pioneers topple Bucs by 30 points in MWC play

BELOIT, Wis. - Grinnell College's women's basketball team not only returned to its winning ways, but did so in convincing fashion Tuesday night.

The Pioneers rolled over Beloit College by the largest margin in the 44-year history of the series, posting a 70-40 victory on the latter's court. The 30-point margin surpassed the previous high of 28, established 13 years ago.

All 14 players available saw action for the Pioneers, who won for the third time in their last four outings. Grinnell has been victorious in eight of its last nine meetings against Beloit.

Grinnell secured its third consecutive season of double-digit victories, improving to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in the Midwest Conference. Beloit dipped to 2-14 overall and 1-6 in the league.

The Pioneers saw a balanced scoring effort, with Bailey Strovers '27 leading the way with 16 points to go along with eight rebounds. Sara Booher '25 added 13 points and five boards, Nikki Ware '25 poured in 12 points and grabbed five rebounds and Cassidy Pak '28 scored 11.

Skylar Thomas '26 and Juniper Schwartzman '27 also had five rebounds each as Grinnell dominated the battle of the boards 51-28. Beloit's rebound total is the second-lowest allowed by the Pioneers this season.

Thomas contributed four assists and Booher blocked three shots. On the steals front, career-high totals of three were posted by Reese Stephens '27 and Adriana Perez '28.

The outcome was never in doubt, as Grinnell bolted out to a 15-2 lead in the first 6-½ minutes of the game. Strovers opened the game with a 3-pointer before Beloit scored to slice the gap to one.

Strovers followed with another trey, Pak made a free throw and Booher scored inside for a 9-2 edge. Strovers and Pak followed with 3-pointers for a 15-2 lead as Grinnell went on to lead 23-14 by the end of the first period. The Pioneers extended their margin to 44-24 by halftime and were up 58-36 after three quarters.

Beloit's point total is the third-lowest of the season allowed by Grinnell, which has more than a week off before hosting Monmouth College next Wednesday. Action at Darby Gymnasium tips off at 5:30 p.m.
