Grinnell football team drops contest at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Grinnell College's football team had a tough outing on the road Saturday afternoon, dropping a 70-0 decision at Lake Forest College in Midwest Conference play.

Lake Forest broke out to a 14-0 lead by the end of the first period and later was up 27-0 before the Pioneers threatened, bringing the ball down to the Foresters' 10-yard line. Grinnell's drive, which started on its own 25-yard line, including a 17-yard run by Sam Eaton '27 and 29-yard pass from Stephen Bailey '29 to Vincent Shen '29. After reaching the 10, the Pioneers gave the ball up on downs.

Trailing 40-0 at halftime, Grinnell (1-5 overall, 1-4 Midwest Conference) took the opening drive of the third period into Forester territory before missing a long field goal try. Lake Forest (3-3, 3-2 MWC) responded and led 60-0 after three periods.

Bailey passed for 69 yards for GC and Shen led the receiving corps with 29 yards. Marcus Sung '28 was Grinnell's top rusher with 36 yards.

Defensively, Luke Konczal '29 posted 13 tackles, Adrian Stubbs '28 added 10 and Kevin Johanson '26 tallied five.

Grinnell is back at Rosenbloom Field next Saturday to entertain the University of Chicago. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
