Grinnell women's golf team closes in on another SLIAC title

UNION, Mo. - Grinnell College improved by 12 strokes over the opening day and is two-thirds of the way home to its seventh consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Women's Golf Championships title.

The Pioneers, who shot a 309 Sunday at Birch Creek Golf Club, came back Monday with a 297 to increase their lead in the event. Monday's score is tied for the 10th-best 18-hole round in program history.

Kavya Keshav '26, the 2022 SLIAC individual champion, continued to hold the lead after firing an even-par 72 on Monday with the aid of three birdies. Her two-day score of 146 is six shots in front of the next-best competitor.

The Pioneers have five golfers in the top eight. Vidushi Keni '26 is second with a 152 after shooting a 74 on Monday. She had three birdies on the day.

Waverly Yang '28 is tied for third, shooting a 76 for a two-day total of 154. Emily Lackershire '27 and Saya Geisendorfer '27 are fifth and sixth with scores of 155 and 159, respectively. All three golfers posted one birdie on Monday as Lackershire had a 75 and Geisendorfer a 77.

Amy Nguyen '26 shot an 81 on Monday for a two-day score of 160, good for a seventh-place tie. Sara Meneses '26 rounded out Grinnell's lineup with an 87, putting her at 170. She had one birdie on Monday.

As a team, Grinnell has a two-day score of 606 and leads runner-up Lake Forest College by 39 strokes.

The meet wraps up Tuesday, starting at 9 a.m. The team champion earns the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
