Pioneer women's golf team jumps 4 spots on Day 2 of competition to make the cut

PALM DESERT, Calif. - A furious rally on Day 2 of competition at the NCAA Division III Championships has helped the Grinnell College women's golf team extend its stellar season by another two days.

After having a rough opening day at Desert Willow Golf Resort on Tuesday, Grinnell stormed back on Day 2 with a spectacular round of 298. That score was not only 19 strokes better than Tuesday's round, but ranks 13th in program history.

Grinnell was in 19th place after the opening day and needed to leap four spots in order to make the cut into the final two days of competition. The 21st-ranked Pioneers did just that in thrilling fashion, tearing up the course to jump over four teams into the 15th and final spot for advancement.

The Pioneers' overall score of 615 gave them a razor-thin margin over 20th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan and 11th-ranked Redlands (617).

Grinnell's Vidushi Keni '26 scorched the course Wednesday with a 1-under-par 71, a consistent round that included one birdie and 17 pars.

Amy Nguyen '26 and Kavya Keshav '26 were next in line for the Pioneers, finishing with a 74 and 76, respectively. Each had two birdies on the day, as did Saya Geisendorfer '27. Geisendorfer finished with a 77 and Waverly Yang '28 tallied a 79 with the aid of one birdie.

On the overall chart, Keni jumped 45 positions Wednesday and is now tied for 39th in the field of 176 golfers with a 150. Keshav is tied for 68th with a 154 and Geisendorfer is tied for 80th at 156. Nguyen is at 159 after two days and Yang has a 160.

Top-ranked Emory is the team leader in the field of 34 through two days with a 582, while three golfers are tied for first in the individual standings with 141s.

The meet continues through Friday.
