Grinnell baseball team sees early lead slip away in setback to Concordia

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Grinnell College jumped out to an early lead, but a few big innings by Concordia University of Wisconsin led the Falcons to a 12-5 victory at the Blue Wahoos Challenge Friday.

Grinnell (5-6) outhit the winners 11-9 at Admiral Fetterman Field, with Joe Chanis '27 getting three and Ethan Crawford '25 and Stuart Cash '27 a pair each.

The Pioneers scratched out solo runs in the first, third and fourth innings. Crawford scored on a passed ball in the first, Connor Goodson '26 hit an RBI double in the third and then hit a sacrifice fly to center in the fourth.

Concordia (6-5) answered with six runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-3 lead. Grinnell got its final two runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Chanis and run-scoring fielder's choice by Mac McCain '25.

The Falcons scored three times in the sixth and got three more in the seventh.

During the game, Crawford moved up to fourth on GC's career list for fielding putouts with 598 and 13th in total bases with 194. McCain ranks eighth in runs scored with 103.

Grinnell closes out its stay in Florida Saturday with a twin bill against the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
