Grinnell comeback fall short against Monmouth

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's baseball team saw a furious rally fall just short in an 8-7 loss to Monmouth College on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Park.

Grinnell (13-10, 3-3 Midwest Conference) dug itself an 8-2 hole before reeling off five runs in the eighth inning. In the ninth, the Pioneers got two runners on base before Monmouth (9-14, 4-4) sealed the win.

Grinnell's six-hit attack was sparked by Connor Goodson '26, who had three hits.

Nikolas Ruden '26 homered to open the scoring in the first inning and Goodson hit an RBI double in the sixth. In the eighth, Mac McCain '25 and Goodson each had RBI singles, McCain scored on a wild pitch and Ben Kelly '25 drew a bases-loaded walk.

Jackon Gutta '27 was the pitcher of record for Grinnell, which steps out of league play Wednesday to face Nebraska Wesleyan University in a twin bill. The first pitch at Pioneer Park is at 1 p.m.
