Late burst by Trinity sinks Grinnell baseball team in Blue Wahoos Challenge finale

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Grinnell College's baseball team was right with Trinity College into the fourth inning before the Bantams erupted for a 21-4 victory in the Pioneers' final game of the Blue Wahoos Challenge Monday.

Grinnell fell behind 2-0 after one inning, but tied it up with solo runs in the third and fourth innings as Stuart Cash '27 hit a sacrifice fly and Connor Goodson '26 stole home.

Trinity went ahead to stay with a five-run bottom of the fourth and added eight runs in the fifth. The Pioneers got their final runs of the game in the sixth and seventh frames as Jacob Gaynor '28 hit a sacrifice fly and Cash scored on a passed ball.

Grinnell managed four hits in the game, those coming from Ben Skiles '28, Cash, Nikolas Ruden '26 and Sam Koehler '28. Jackson Gutta '27 was tagged with the pitching loss.

Grinnell, 3-11 on the season, is off until next Monday when it hosts Augsburg College in a twin bill at Pioneer Park.
