EDINGBURGH, Ind. - The Grinnell College men's golf team remained red-hot this weekend, shooting a school-record score of 586 to claim top honors at the two-day Timbergate Preview.

With three golfers finishing in the top four, including Roger Smith's '28 runner-up finish with a 1-under-par 143, Grinnell fired a 301 Sunday at Timbergate Golf Course after recording a 285 on the opening day. The 285 ranks second in program history, only behind a 279 shot in 2015.

The Pioneers' two-day score of 586 broke the school mark of 594, established last month. That eclipsed the previous GC record of 596 set in 1965. Grinnell beat runner-up Wabash by 10 strokes in the 11-team field.

Smith's 143 ranks second in program history, just one shot away from Craig Junio's record of 142 established in 1989. Smith shot 75 on Sunday after recording a 68 on Saturday, the latter score ranking third in program history. He posted four birdies each day.

Spencer Moody '29 placed third in the 67-golfer field at 144, one shot behind Smith, with rounds of 71 and 73. He had four birdies the first day and three the next. Everett Williams '29 tied for fourth with a 71-74-145 with four birdies Saturday and one Sunday. Moody's two-day score is fourth in program history and Williams' is seventh.

Josh Udelson '29 was 21st with a 154, tallying rounds of 75 and 79, while Max Shin '29 tied for 28th with a 77-80-157. Udelson had three birdies in the tourney, including two on Sunday, while Shin added three birdies Saturday.
