Ripon rally sinks Grinnell baseball team Friday

MAUSTON, Wis. - Grinnell College's baseball team shot out to an early lead Friday against Ripon College, but the Red Hawks rallied for a 10-6 victory in a Midwest Conference battle.

Grinnell (9-12, 3-1 MWC), which saw its six-game winning streak snapped, led 4-1 through three innings before the Red Hawks rallied.

The Pioneers managed 10 hits in the game, with Ryan Jackson '29 collecting three of those and Connor Goodson '26 and Stuart Cash '27 adding one apiece.

Goodson got Grinnell off to a great start with a two-run single to right-center in the top of the first. Jackson added an RBI single up the middle to make it 3-0.  Ripon (3-14, 2-2 MWC) scored in the second, but Jackson counted with an RBI single down the left-field line in the third for a 4-1 lead.

After the Red Hawks erupted for five unanswered runs, Jackson's run-scoring double to left-center in the fifth brought the Pioneers within 6-5. Ripon came up with four straight runs before Nikolas Ruden '26 hit a sacrifice fly to center in the eighth.

Joshua Chung '28 was the pitcher of record for Grinnell, taking over for Jakob Runkel '26 who fanned three batters in three innings.

The second game of the twin bill was suspended early on with Ripon leading. That contest will be resumed at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by a regularly-scheduled game.
