Moody leads the way for Grinnell men's golf team on opening day of UW-Eau Claire event

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Grinnell College was in a logjam for 12th place after the opening day of the Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational men's golf tournament hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Sunday.

The Pioneers shot a 309 in the 22-team event and were paced by Spencer Moody '29, who shot even-par 71 at Eau Claire Golf and Country Club. He is tied for second among 124 golfers with the help of four birdies on the day.

Roger Smith '28 shot 78, Everett Williams '29 came in at 79 and Josh Udelson '29 and Max Shin '29 each recorded 81s. Udelson had three birdies on Sunday and Smith had one. Nathan Yan '30 rounded out Grinnell's golfers with an 88.

The host school has the first-round lead with a 290, while Nick Buckman of UW-Stout is the individual leader with a 70.

The tourney continues Monday.
