Jack Taylor ’15, a 5-10, 170-pound guard from Black River Falls, Wis. (Black River Falls), made an impact that rippled across the nation … and world .. in just his third game as a Pioneer.

The Pioneer shattered the NCAA record for points in a game, regardless of level, when he poured in 138 in a 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible College on Tuesday.

Taylor passed the NCAA Division III record of 89 points, set last year by teammate Griffin Lentsch ’13, with 11:14 left in the game. He continued to score, eclipsing the century mark at the 8:55 mark. He then passed the all-time NCAA record of 113 points, set by Clarence “Bevo” Francis of Rio Grande in 1954, with a 3-pointer at the 4:42 mark.

But scoring was just one national record set by Taylor. He also broke NCAA records for field goals (52), field goals attempted (108), 3-pointers (27) and 3-pointers attempted (71).

Additionally, Grinnell set a school record for points scored in a game with 179 and turnovers forced with 49.

Taylor followed up that performance with a 21-point output against William Penn University. He currently is averaging 51.5 points a game.

He went on to be named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week.
