Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – To say Wednesday's women's soccer victory by Grinnell College was a team effort would be an understatement.
The Pioneers, who used 26 players in the contest, had five different women score goals and three keepers combine on a shutout in a 6-0 victory over Cornell College at Springer Field.
The victory boosts the Pioneers to 4-1 in the Midwest Conference and 4-6-1 overall, while Cornell dipped to 0-5 in the league and 1-9 in all contests.
Patty Murphy-Geiss '14 had two goals in the contest to boost her team-leading total to three. She opened the scoring in the 15th minute when
Kristen Stacey '16 delivered a through ball, which Murphy-Geiss caught up to, took a dribble and scored from five yards out.
In the 30th minute,
Pauline Zheng '14 scored her first goal of the season on an assist by
Maggie Mamantov '16. On the play, Mamantov crossed the ball from the right corner, where Zheng struck it into the upper-left portion of the net.
The score remained 2-0 through halftime before the Pioneers made it 3-0 in the 50th minute on Mackenzie Shanahan's '14 first goal of the season. On the play, Shanahan stole the ball and dribbled it toward the goal before delivering from 10 yards out.
Just four minutes later,
Abby Jaeger '14 scored her second goal of the season when she hit a shot from 15 yards out on the left side.
Kathryn Vincent '13 tallied her first goal of the season in the 61st minute on assists from
Sarah Jensen '15 and
Eva Smith '16. The ball bounced around in the box, with Jensen and Smith both getting touches on it before Vincent finished it off from close range for a 5-0 lead.
In the 77th minute, Murphy-Geiss got her second goal of the game as she scored in transition from 20 yards out.
Grinnell dominated the contest, winning the shots battle 25-4 with 11 of the Pioneers' shots on goal. Murphy-Geiss had seven shots, Vincent three and Smith,

Maddie Gray '16, Zheng and
Allison Moore '13 two apiece.
Jordan Young '14 played the first half at keeper and earned the win, making one save.
Katy Oldach '16 played the next 39 minutes and
Devon Manley '15 finished off the game and had a save.
The Pioneers play a MWC match at Beloit College on Saturday.
