Box Score The Grinnell College softball team lost a twin bill against Stephens College Monday at Columbia, Mo., falling 13-5 in the opener and 9-1 in the nightcap.
In the first game,
Jayme Wiebold '12 led Grinnell at the plate by going 2-for-3 while
Jessica Menary '13 had a triple.
The hosts broke out to a 5-0 lead with three runs in the first inning and one each in the second and third.
Grinnell jumped back into contention, though, with four runs in the fourth inning.
Summer Wilke '15 reached base on an error and Wiebold singled before
Amanda Stromquist '12 belted a double to center. One run scored on the hit and another run on an error.
Stromquist later scored on a wild pitch before Menary tripled to right-center and eventually scored on a passed ball.
Stephens scored four more runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 9-4. The Pioneers' final run came in the fifth when Wiebold's RBI single plated
Aniela Wendt '14.
Stephens tallied two runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the sixth to end the game.
No statistics were yet available from the second game.
Grinnell is now 0-4, while Stephens moved to 5-3.
Grinnell is at Greenville on Wednesday.
