Pioneer women tune up for NCAA Tourney with win over Cornell

MOUNT VERNON – The Grinnell College women's tennis team tuned up for the NCAA Division III National Tournament with a 7-2 victory over Cornell College on Wednesday.

Double winners for the Pioneers were Emma Macdonald '14 and Catherine Fitch '13. Macdonald won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and teamed up with Toby Cain '12 to win 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Fitch was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles and teamed with Kalena Makanui '12 to win 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

Other singles winners for Grinnell were Shirlene Luk '15 at No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), Clothilde Thirouin '14 at No. 3 (6-3, 6-0) and Hanna Feldman '14 at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0).

Grinnell, ranked 13th in the Central Region of NCAA Division III, moved to 19-3 while Cornell dropped to 13-7.
