Box Score 2 MONMOUTH, Ill. – Monmouth College stopped the Grinnell College softball team in a Midwest Conference doubleheader Saturday, winning by scores of 9-1 and 8-0.
Jayme Wiebold '12 had three hits on the day for Grinnell, while
Aiyana Turpen-Scott '14 and
Summer Wilke '15 had two apiece.
In the first game, Monmouth scored two runs in the first, second and third innings for a 6-0 lead. Grinnell got its score in the fourth when Turpen-Scott singled to center field, moved to second on a single to left by
Jennifer Fulton '15 and scored on an error.
Monmouth scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and closed out the win with two runs in the sixth. Fulton suffered the pitching loss for Grinnell. Turpen-Scott had two hits in the game for the Pioneers.
Wiebold had a two-hit performance in the second game, while Wilke had the other hit. Monmouth scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second and two in the fifth.
Grinnell is now 2-25 overall and 0-6 in the MWC, while Monmouth moved to 16-15 in all games and 5-1 in the league. The Pioneers close out their slate Sunday at home with a doubleheader against Knox College. Senior Day action begins at 1 p.m. at the Softball Complex.
