CHICAGO – The Grinnell College women's tennis team will meet up with Carleton College this week in Chicago in the NCAA Division III Regional Team Tournament.
The Pioneers bring a 19-3 mark into Friday's 2 p.m. match hosted by the University of Chicago, while Carleton is 18-5. The two teams met earlier this season, with Carleton coming away with a 9-0 home victory.
Grinnell is ranked 18th in the Central Region, while Carleton is fifth regionally and 30th in the nation.
The other opening-round match Friday is the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (21-4) against Wisconsin Lutheran College (17-10).
The Grinnell/Carleton winner meets Chicago (19-4) at 2 p.m. Saturday, while Washington University of Missouri (15-7) meets the UW-Whitewater/Wisconsin Lutheran winner. Saturday's winners play for the regional title at noon Sunday, with the victor advancing to the national finals May 21-23 in Cary, N.C.
Regional matches are scheduled to be played at the Stagg Field Courts at 56th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue. In the event of inclement weather, matches will be played indoors at the Hyde Park Bally's Sports Club located at 1301 East 47th Street.
Admission to all matches is free to all spectators.
