ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Grinnell College women's tennis team split matches Saturday, beating Beloit College 8-1 and losing a hard-fought 5-4 decision to St. Norbert College.

Grinnell swept doubles play against Beloit with wins by the teams of Shirlene Luk '15-Sadhana Athreya '14 (8-0), Hanna Feldman '14-Emma Macdonald '14 (8-1) and Virginia Purcell '17-Julia Rumley '16 (8-5).

Luk won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Athreya posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at the second spot. Grinnell also won at Nos. 4 through 6 with Feldman (6-2, 6-0), Briannah Wilson '17 (6-1, 6-2) and Rumley (6-4, 6-3).

Grinnell's four wins against St. Norbert were all in singles. Athreya won 6-2, 6-0 at the second spot, while winners at the Nos. 4 through 6 levels came from Feldman (6-3, 6-2), Macdonald (6-4, 6-4) and Rumley (6-3, 6-4).

Grinnell will bring an 8-3 record into next Saturday's home matches against Lake Forest College and Knox College.
