Box Score

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Grinnell College women's tennis team battled regionally-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to the wire before falling 5-4 Tuesday.

The Pioneers, who are 11-5 on the season, won two of three doubles matches with victories by the teams of Shirlene Luk '15-Clothilde Thirouin '14 at No. 1 (8-5) and Emma Macdonald '14-Julia Rumley '16 at No. 3 (9-7).

In singles, Grinnell won the top two spots with Laura Krull '13 (6-1, 6-4) and Luk (6-2, 6-7, 10-8).

UW-La Crosse, rated 18th in the Central Region of NCAA Division III, is now 10-6.

“Despite losing a very close match which really came down to two points in a super tie-breaker in one of our singles match, I'm pleased with the progress our women made from the first day of their spring break play to today,” said Grinnell coach Andy Hamilton. “Hat's off to Shirlene and Laura for their singles victories, and I'm especially pleased Shirlene and Clo looked good at No. 1 doubles again.”

Grinnell has Wednesday off before playing Hope College on Thursday.
