Grinnell drops pair of games at MWC Crossover

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The Grinnell College softball team hung with Carroll University early, but Carroll eventually pulled away and won a 12-3 decision at the Midwest Conference Crossover Saturday.

Later in the day, the Pioneers fell 8-0 to Lawrence University.

In the Carroll game, Grinnell managed seven hits including two by Aniela Wendt '14. Lindsay Fujimoto '15, Summer Wilke '15, Alyssa Bean '16, Grace Ryan '14 and Jeanette Au '16 had one apiece.

Carroll scored five runs in the top of the first inning before Grinnell rallied for three in the bottom of the second. Au led off with a single and took second when Jordan Matosky '16 reached base on an error. Wendt then singled to load the bases before Fujimoto knocked in two runs with a single. Wendt later scored when Fujimoto was caught stealing.

Carroll answered with three runs in the third and fourth frames and one in the fifth.

Bean suffered the pitching loss. Carroll improved to 3-0 in the MWC with the win and 7-16 in all games.

In the Lawrence game, the Vikings tallied three runs in the second and fourth innings and one in the third and sixth. Grinnell managed four hits, including a double by Jen Fulton '15. Wilke, Au and Robin Campbell '16 had one each.

Wilke suffered the pitching loss. Lawrence is now 2-2 in the MWC and 12-8 in all games, while Grinnell fell to 0-3 in the league and 0-17 in all games.

Grinnell concludes the MWC Crossover Sunday with games against Ripon College and Beloit College.
