Krull knocks off region's 6th-ranked player to spark Pioneer women's tennis team

GRINNELL, Iowa – Laura Krull '13 rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 singles victory over the Central Region's sixth-ranked player to lead the Grinnell College women's tennis team in a dual with nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Saturday.

Krull, who is ranked 14th regionally, recorded her win at No. 1 singles. Krull also teamed with Catherine Fitch '13 to post an 8-5 decision at No. 2 doubles. The Warhawks won the dual by a 7-2 score.

The Pioneers are now 12-8, while UW-Whitewater – ranked 26th nationally and fifth in the region – improved to 16-8.

“We continue to build in the spring season with matches against two quality teams in the past week,” said Grinnell assistant coach Rick Mitchell. “The players showed great efforts today.”

The Pioneers play at Simpson College in Indianola on Thursday.
