GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College softball team lost the first two games of its own Pioneer Invitational Saturday at the Softball Complex.
The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh posted a 7-0 victory over the Pioneers, and Iowa Wesleyan College struck for nine runs in the first inning en route to a 21-1 win over the hosts.
UW-Oshkosh scored three runs in the first inning and one in the second and third for a 5-0 lead. The Titans tacked on two more runs in the seventh.
Summer Wilke '15 had two of Grinnell's three hits, an infield single in the first inning and single up the middle in the fourth.
Robin Campbell '16 added an infield single in the third.
Jennifer Fulton '15 gave up nine hits while getting tagged with the pitching loss.
After getting nine runs in the first inning during its win over Grinnell, Iowa Wesleyan tallied four runs in each of the next three frames. Pitcher Jillian Leutscher fired a one-hitter, that being an infield single by Fulton.
Grinnell got its run in the third. With one out,
Lindsay Fujimoto '15 walked, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball.
Grace Ryan '14 and
Alyssa Bean '16 followed with walks before Fujimoto scored on another passed ball.
Grinnell, 0-12 on the season, plays Westminster College at 9 a.m. Sunday and then will meet a foe to be determined in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
