Box Score

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's tennis team claimed two of three doubles matches against regionally-ranked Coe College Sunday, but still fell by a 7-2 decision.

Grinnell won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles with Catherine Fitch '13 and Laura Krull '13, and 8-3 at No. 3 with the tandem of Emma Macdonald '14 and Julia Rumley '16.

Three Grinnell players took their foes to three sets in singles play during the marathon match, those being Clothilde Thirouin '14 at No. 3, Fitch at No. 4 and Macdonald at No. 5.

Grinnell is now 12-7, while the 11th-ranked Kohawks moved to 17-3.

"I am really inspired by our play today and I can see that our women are
making strides toward getting back to their highest level of play," said Grinnell coach Andy Hamilton. "For us to go toe-to-toe with a Coe program which is ranked in the region is a good
sign as we work to get ready to represent the Midwest Conference in
the NCAA Regional.

"Emma Macdonald was our star today….. she helped us win a point at No. 3 doubles
and played very well in her tough three-set singles loss," he added.

The Pioneers are slated to play a match at Simpson College on Tuesday.
