Cornell pulls away in 2nd half to beat Pioneers

Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's basketball team gave defending Midwest Conference champion Cornell College a big test in the first half before falling 79-55 at the Multi-Sports Center Tuesday night.

Grinnell trailed just 42-36 at intermission before the hosts pulled away in the second half.

Grinnell was paced by Anne Boldt '16, who had 15 points. Cristal Coleman '15 added 11 points and Alissa Hirsh '16 scored 10. Hirsh also dished out eight assists and grabbed six rebounds. Boldt added two steals.

The first half was tight the entire way, with Coleman's 3-pointer tying the game at 36-all with 2:34 remaining. Cornell then scored six points to close out the half.

Cornell opened the second half with a 13-0 run to pull away and secure the win.

Grinnell fell to 1-12 overall and 0-8 in the Midwest Conference, while Cornell moved to 10-3 in all games and 6-2 in the league.

The Pioneers play Lawrence University at 3 p.m. Saturday in Appleton, Wis.
