Ripon uses 2nd-half rally to top Grinnell women's basketball squad

Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's basketball team saw a halftime lead disappear as the Ripon Red Hawks rallied for a 66-52 victory Saturday afternoon at Darby Gymnasium.

Grinnell's Anne Boldt '16 tied for game-high scoring honors with 18 points, while Kaitlyn Norton '17 scored nine. Alissa Hirsh '16 contributed five assists and five rebounds for the Pioneers, who are 1-10 in the Midwest Conference and 2-14 overall.

Ariel Keller '17 blocked two shots for Grinnell and Abby Jaeger '14 came up with two steals.

Jill Van Eperen had 18 points for the Red Hawks, who moved to 7-4 in league play and 7-9 overall.

Grinnell got out to a fast start, scoring the first eight points of the game as Boldt and Cristal Coleman '15 made 3-pointers and Hirsh a layup. However, Ripon came back and it was tight the rest of the first half with seven ties.

Lydia Stariha '17 completed the opening stanza for Grinnell on a strong note as her 3-pointer with :48 left gave the Pioneers a 31-28 lead heading into the locker room.

The early part of the second half was tight, with Grinnell still up by one when a basket by Sophia Gatton '17 made it 37-36 with 14:07 remaining. But Ripon answered with a key nine-point run to grab an eight point lead at the 11:11 mark.  The Pioneers never got closer than six points after that.

Grinnell takes to the road for its next three games, beginning with a 7 p.m. test Tuesday at Monmouth College.
