Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's basketball team set a school record for points scored in a game during Wednesday night's 104-99 setback to Knox College at Darby Gymnasium.
The Pioneers' point total surpassed the previous record of 98, set against Iowa Wesleyan in 1991.
Alex Plemmons '15 had a double-double for Grinnell with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She also blocked two shots, as did
Cristal Coleman '15.
Anne Boldt '16 scored a game-high 24 points, while
Alissa Hirsh '16 added 21. Hirsh also dished out five assists and Boldt had three steals, as did
Abby Jaeger '14.
Grinnell is now 1-10 overall and 0-6 in the Midwest Conference. Knox moved to 3-9 in all games and 1-6 in the league.
The Pioneers got out to a fast start, scoring 11 of the game's first 14 points. Boldt had six of those points, Hirsh and Plemmons two each and
Sophia Gatton '17 one.
Grinnell built its lead as large as nine when a free throw by
Alex Neckopulos '17 made it 27-18 with 8:20 remaining. However, Knox rallied and led 48-44 at halftime.
The game was back and forth for a good portion of the second half, with Grinnell taking its final lead on a layup by Neckopulos that made it 77-75 with 7:38 remaining. Knox then went on an 8-1 run to take an 83-78 cushion.
Grinnell got as close as three a handful of times, the last at 94-91 on Hirsh's jumper with 2:08 left. Knox followed with a four-point run for a seven-point lead and went on to win by five.
Grinnell is back at home again Saturday when Carroll University visits Darby Gymnasium. Game time is 3 p.m.
