Box Score DE PERE, Wis. – The Grinnell College women's basketball team stayed with the Midwest Conference leader a good portion of the game before falling 64-51 Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers trailed by six at halftime and made it a four-point game three minutes into the second half before St. Norbert pulled away to improve to 14-2 in league play and 17-4 overall. Grinnell is 1-15 in the MWC and 2-19 in all games.
Anne Boldt '16 scored a game-high 13 points for the Pioneers, while
Sophia Gatton '17 had 11. Boldt also had a block and a steal.
Gatton dished out three assists, while
Alex Plemmons '15 had a game-high seven rebounds as well as a steal.
Grinnell got out to a 10-6 lead after a 3-pointer by
Cristal Coleman '15 and was still up three when a jumper by Gatton made it 14-11 with 11:07 left in the first half. However, St. Norbert answered with an 11-1 run and went on to lead 24-18 at intermission.
St. Norbert hit a 3-pointer to open the second half before Plemmons sank consecutive jumpers to bring Grinnell within 27-22. A bit later, a basket by Gatton made it a 28-24 deficit with 16:52 left.
It was still a five-point game at the 16:06 mark when Boldt delivered on a free throw to make it 30-25. That's when St. Norbert erupted on an 11-2 run to make it a 41-27 game with 11:35 left.
The hosts continued to pull away for the win.
Grinnell finishes the season with two home games, the first a Wednesday meeting with Cornell College. Game time at Darby Gymnasium is 7:30 p.m.
