Taylor reaches 1,000-point career milestone in victory over Knox

Box Score GALESBURG, Ill. – Jack Taylor '15 reached a major milestone while leading the Grinnell College men's basketball team to a 115-94 Midwest Conference victory at Knox College Wednesday night.

Taylor became the 23rd Pioneer to reach the 1,000-point milestone for his career, as he poured in a game-high 40 points. He needed 23 points entering the game to get to 1,000.

Taylor made nine 3-pointers and 11 free throws to spark the Pioneers, who are 10-4 in the league and 15-4 in all games. Others in double figures were Luke Yeager '15 with 24 points, Julian Marx '17 with 12 and Patrick Maher '14 with 10.

Yeager and Maher had two steals apiece, Taylor and Maher dished out three assists each and Maher also grabbed 10 rebounds to complete his double-double.

With the loss, Knox fell to 0-13 in the MWC and 1-17 overall.

It was a tight game much of the first half, with Grinnell leading just 36-32 before breaking things open with an 11-2 run. Yeager began the spurt with a basket and Taylor two free throws to stretch the lead to eight.

After a basket by Knox made it 40-34, Taylor made two free throws, Cody Olson '14 hit a bucket and Marx a trey to put Grinnell up 47-34 with 2:18 to go.

Grinnell extended its lead to 56-39 by halftime and never looked back.

The Pioneers return home to Darby Gymnasium Saturday, as they host Beloit College. Game time is 1 p.m.
