Grinnell loses close decision at Knox

Box Score GALESBURG, Ill. – Anne Boldt '16 and Alex Plemmons '15 both erupted for game-high totals of 22 points, but the Grinnell College women's basketball team still lost a 91-89  victory at Knox College in Midwest Conference play Wednesday.

Boldt sank 12-of-14 free throws and Plemmons drained 6-of-8. Abby Jaeger '14 and Alex Neckopulos '17 grabbed nine rebounds each for the Pioneers, who are 1-13 in the league and 2-17 overall. Neckopulus also scored 13 points and Sophia Gatton '17 tallied 10. Kaitlyn Norton '17 came up with three steals and four assists.

Knox improved to 3-10 in the MWC and 5-13 in all games.

Grinnell trailed 41-31 at halftime before rallying in the second stanza. It was still a nine-point game midway through the second half when Grinnell roared back with a nine-point run. Boldt made a free throw and jumper, and Gatton three consecutive baskets to make it 61-all with 10:14 left in the game.

From there it was back and forth, with the teams exchanging leads on occasions. Grinnell's final lead was 78-77 with 5:13 left, though there were two ties after that. The last of those was when Coleman's free throws made it 89-all with :50 left.

Grinnell had a chance at a final shot, but missed it. Knox's Jodi Marver was fouled with :06 left and made both shots to account for the final score.

The Pioneers return home to Darby Gymnasium Saturday, as they host Beloit College. Game time is 3 p.m.
