Pioneer women's tennis team knocks off regionally-ranked foe

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Grinnell College women's tennis team picked up where it left off from last fall's successful season, beating regionally-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 5-4 Sunday.

The Pioneers got out to a 2-1 lead in doubles, as Shirlene Luk '15 and Clothilde Thirouin '14 won 8-6 at the top spot and Sadhana Athreya '14 and Emma Macdonald '14 posted an 8-2 decision at No. 2.

In singles, Luk won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 1, Hanna Feldman '14 earned a 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Macdonald was victorious 6-2, 7-6 at No. 6.

Grinnell improved to 12-4 with the win, while UW-La Crosse –ranked 19th in the Central Region – dipped to 10-3.

The Pioneers were slated to play SUNY-New Paltz on Monday.
