Pioneer women's tennis team picks up pair of wins

Grinnell 5, New Paltz 4
Grinnell 8, Oglethorpe 1
Hope 6, Grinnell 3


ORLANDO, Fla. – The Grinnell College women's tennis team earned two wins in three matches in recent days.

The Pioneers defeated Oglethorpe 8-1 and SUNY New Paltz 5-4, while falling 6-3 to Hope. Hope is ranked 16th in the Central Region.

Doubles winners against Oglethorpe were the teams of Sadhana Athreya '14-Emma Macdonald '14 and Julia Rumley '16-Minna Montgomery '16. Grinnell swept singles play with Shirlene Luk '15, Athreya, Clothilde Thirouin '14, Hanna Feldman '14, Shanaz Daneshdoost '17 and Briannah Wilson '17.

Against New Paltz, Grinnell swept doubles with the teams of Luk-Thirouin, Athreya-Macdonald and Virginia Purcell '17-Feldman. Luk and Athreya won singles matches.

Grinnell's wins against Hope came from Luk and Thirouin in doubles, plus Feldman and Macdonald in singles.

The matches put Grinnell at 14-5 on the season.
