Stariha leads the way for Pioneers in Arizona

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 TUCSON, Ariz. – Lydia Stariha '17 got her collegiate softball career off to a big start during Grinnell College's spring break trip.

Stariha hit .545 in the Pioneers' seven games in Arizona. She was 12-for-22 at the plate.

Grinnell opened the trip with a 9-0 setback to the University of La Verne.

The Pioneers then lost 12-1 to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Grinnell's run came in the fourth inning when Summer Wilke '15 doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Megan Gibson's '17 single.

Stariha went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Alyssa Bean '16, had a double in a 6-0 loss to Lamar Community College. Stariha was 2-for-3 at the plate and Sage Juveland '17 added a double in an 8-0 loss to Marian University.

Stariha added a 2-for-4 hitting performance in a hard-fought 5-1 loss to Augsburg College. Grinnell's run came in the third inning.

Grinnell lost 15-0 to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse as Stariha went 2-for-3 at the plate. Wilke was 2-for-2 at the plate in a 15-0 loss to Pomona-Pitzer.

Grinnell, 0-7 overall, plays a twin bill at Wartburg College Thursday. The first pitch is at 4 p.m.
