Grinnell softball team falls to Lawrence, Carroll

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The Grinnell College softball team dropped its first two games of the Midwest Conference Crossover Friday at the Eastside Centre.
 
The Pioneers lost 8-0 to Lawrence University and then fell 12-2 to Carroll University. The Pioneers are now 0-4 in the MWC and 0-10 in all games.
 
In the Carroll contest, the winners scored two runs in each of the first two innings for a 4-0 lead.
 
However, Grinnell caught fire and cut the lead in half in the third. With one out, Lydia Stariha '17 and Sage Juveland '17 walked before Megan Gibson '17 belted a two-run double.
 
But Carroll responded with six runs in the bottom of the frame and two more in the fourth. Besides Gibson, Grinnell's other hit was a first-inning single by Kristina Weber '16.
 
Gibson and Stariha shared pitching duties, with Gibson being tagged with the loss.
 
Lawrence led the Pioneers just 1-0 through five innings, with the Vikings' run coming in the fourth frame. However, they tallied seven in the sixth to secure the win.
 
Grinnell's hits were singles by Weber and Gibson. Gibson was the pitcher of record for Grinnell.
 
The Pioneers meet Beloit College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
