Cornell takes pair from Grinnell softball team

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Grinnell College softball team lost decisions of 8-0 and 10-2 at Cornell College Wednesday.
 
In the second game, Cornell jumped out to an 8-0 lead with solo runs in the first, second and third innings and five in the fourth. But the Pioneers added two runs in the fifth. After Andie Semlow '16 walked, Lydia Stariha '17 reached on a fielder's choice. Stariha moved to second on an error and scored when Megan Gibson '17 singled.
 
Kristina Weber '16 added an RBI groundout to push another run across. But Cornell scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
 
Besides Gibson, others with singles were from Sage Juveland '17 and Weber.
 
The opener was scoreless until Cornell scored six runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. Grinnell's hit was a double by Weber.
 
Grinnell, 0-8 in the Midwest Conference and 0-14 overall, hosts Knox College Saturday at the Softball Complex. The first pitch is at 1 p.m.
