GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's tennis team gave Coe College all it could handle in a battle of regionally-ranked squads Saturday at 10th Avenue Courts.
 
But in the end, the Kohawks escaped with a 5-4 victory. Coe, rated 15th in the Central Region, moved to 17-5 while the 19th-ranked Pioneers fell to 15-7.
 
Grinnell got singles wins from Sadhana Athreya '14 at No. 2 (6-3, 6-3), Clothilde Thirouin '14 at No. 3 (7-5, 6-4) and Emma Macdonald '14 at No. 6 (6-3, 6-1). The Pioneers' other win was a 9-8 victory by Shirlene Luk '15 and Thirouin at No. 1 doubles.
 
Grinnell plays at Augustana College next Saturday.
